I have an original Mytouch and ever since the network "upgrade" to 4g I've had nothing but problems. I mean no service on a 30 mile trip through the middle of town, phone showing full bars but unable to make/receive calls or texts and dropped calls. It's been a nightmare of new sim cards and trips to the TMO store and LONG phone convos and they are only offering to replace the current phone with a refurb of the same model (which won't fix anything!!!!)

I'm switching to sprint next month and I'll eat the cancellation fee if I have to, it would be worth it just to be able to make calls.

Well, I've been with Verizon for years and have a inside scoop on when the iPhone will be available. But, I'm leaving Verizon for T-mobile and the MyTouch! I currently have the Droid Eris...guess I'm partial to Droid.

I always recommend picking a carrier first, then picking a phone (OS). If on TMO the iPhone won't do you much good if for no other reason than slow web on an iPhone is pointless imo. If TMO coverage is solid (Philly should be) then the MyTouch 4G is nice. I would personally also look at the G2 and Nexus S or Nexus One (on Ebay). AT&T is great in your area, so you could always go with an iPhone 4 if she likes it.
If she hasn't tried Windows Phone 7 yet then she should check it out. TMO has the HD7 and the Dell Venue is available to order now and it's a really sweet device. I am using my WP7 phone more than any other right now.

I just got an iPhone 3g myself with AT&T coverage. Finally got everyone in the family on the same plan. My Son has had an iPhone 4 since they first came out with them, he's on his second phone. The first one he had nothing but trouble with but AT&T replaced it with no hassles. His second one has been working perfectly ever since and he's very happy with it.
