My 180
Hey guys, just wanted to share my fish tank.
My love for fishkeeping is very different than my reptiles, I find the two in combination are very balancing, and very time consuming!
System specs:
180 gallon, by Great Lakes Aquariums
55 gallon sump
2x 250 watt Metal halides. 15,000 Kelvin XM bulbs.
Coralife super skimmer 220 needle wheel.
Homemade stand and canopy
Mag 9.5 return pump
2x Hydor Koralia 4
The tank is 4 years old, I set it up when I was in highschool, and I hope to see my fish grow old here! They are all doing well and I am having some success, I tried to pick hardy fish that could do well even when I cant do a water change for 6 months.
I don't have any corals at the moment, I am a fulltime student and do not have the time or money, but the tank was set up so that I can go reef eventually. With the addition of some new equipment, I hope to see this tank full to the brim with leather and mushroom corals someday down the road.
Fish:
Gold stripe maroon clown
Zebra moray eel
Blue hippo tang
Yellow pseudochromis
I had a few others, Including the amazing queen angelfish in the following pic, but she grew way too agressive for my other fish, and killed a few before I could find a new home for her. When I have more time I will be looking to add a new interesting species to my mix, maybe a docile angelfish, trigger, or lion.
Thanks for looking, please feel free to post if you like marine!

Re: My 180
Very nice!
I have a 180 with african cichlids.
The only downfall with my tank is the 24 inch depth is tough for keeping algae cleaned off the glass.
I've always kept some fish around. We also have a garden goldfish pond.

I think 180 has great dimensions, it is kind of deep, but I like it.
I wouldnt mind an 18" tall square growout someday for frags...

Re: My 180
Nice tank, but when you decide to make it reef your going to need to upgrade the skimmer to something like a reef octopus or bubble magnus. I was going to make a 120 gallon with a 55 sump and full blown t5 light but being only 14 i did not have the funds so instead i have a 30 gallon nano, and am going to sell the 120.

Nah dude, this skimmer pulls pretty good. Maybe you are right if you believe the the hype, but I have seen skimmerless reefs that are gorgeous.

Very nice tank! My dad has a 240 show tank. He also has a 100 frag tank, 65 frag tank, 45 refugium, and a 40 for fish that are for sale.
If you want some really high quality stuff that is much lower than most sites check out reefraff.biz.
Its my dad's business. He just started it up and its just a basement business right now but he has owned saltwater for about 25 years and freshwater for about 35. He really knows his stuff, truly cares about what he is selling, and isn't doing it for the money. Its just a hobby but he truly loves it, check out the website and if you have any questions you can get ahold of him at questions@reefraff.biz or calling 518-891-9175. He can get whatever you need, dry goods or live coral/fish/ivertebrates.
Sorry if it sounds like a commercial!
But that is an amazing looking tank. I love the saltwaters that aren't crammed with live rock.

My reef is skimmerless, i should post pics. If the skimmer works for you thats good, ive read alot of people having problems with that skimmer. I have an uncle who added a single shrooms in his tank and now is fighting a loosing battle. They have killed nearly half of his corals and are even growing in his overflow. Just a though before you add them in your tank
