Despite logging a tough split decision loss to Dan Miller at UFC 124, Joe Doerksen yesterday had insult added to the injury of losing in front of his fellow Canadians in Montreal Saturday night when he was informed by the UFC that he was being let go by the promotion.

Fiveouncesofpain was first to report the New Bothwell, Manitoba native's firing.

The loss was Doerksen's second in a row since handing Tom Lawlor his second loss in a row in his Octagon return at UFC 113. He was submitted in his last bout at UFC 119 by C.B. Dollaway.

Surprisingly, Joe Stevenson who logged his second consecutive loss and his fourth in his past six fights when he was was knocked out in less than two minutes by fellow TUF winner Mac Danzig Saturday will be getting another chance by the UFC. According to MMAWeekly, sources close to Joe "Daddy" say that the promotion told the former number one lightweight contender that he will live to fight another day in the Octagon.

In related news, UFC newcomer Sean Pierson (who many felt should have won Fight of the Night honors at UFC 124) may be one and done with the UFC despite winning a unanimous decision victory over Matt Riddle on Saturday night. According to a report by The Toronto Star, Pierson, who recently began work as a Toronto police officer has been told by Toronto Police Services brass that he will need to choose between the two professions, which is odd considering fellow TUF alumnus Rob MacDonald continued to fight and work as a police officer in the city for some time. MacDonald, who resigned a position with a neighboring department to compete on TUF was later hired by the TPS where he worked for a year before moving to Salt Lake City Utah to work and train at Gym Jones, the training facility made famous for the program it formulated for the gladiators in the film "300."
