Talking What's the best way to keep your hogs fresh?

Keep them in the refrigerator of course.

I put all my hogs down for the winter a couple days ago. I first planned to build a complicated room with an A/C in it but then found this very used but still working refrigerator and decided to use it.

It can be a little scary putting thousands of dollars in a refrigerator. It's working out great.

Wow....yeah, I imagine there's a pretty big psychological hump to get over, closing living animals up inside a 'fridge!

Do you open it from time to time to make sure they get some fresh air? I know they don't need anywhere near the same sort of air circulation that a bunch of mammals would need...but still.... ??

The last couple days I've checked on them a few times a day. My plan is to check on them every few days. I'm sure they'll be fine (that's what I keep telling myself at night - LOL!).

It's hard finding a cool place in my basement as it stays in the mid to high 60's during the winter. I need to keep the hogs around 57 or so.

LOL...you can use my basement...a walk-out with a dog-door that faces north and lets the bitter north wind blow right into the house.

Just wondering, as I have 9 colubrids (8 corns & a hognose) myself... aside from breeding purposes, are there other advantages to brumating the snakes? I've never done it with mine, and have been curious about the pros/cons for non-breeding colubrids. Very tempting to "put my corns away" for the winter, since they eat & poop so darned much! But I'd probably keep my hognose warm, as I'd miss her company for those months.

Oh, and I'd have to use an A/C unit or refrigerator too, since I live in a temperate marine-type climate - so it's pretty cool to see how you managed!
