Why In Water?

my red tailed boa that i got this Saturday at a show is always in her water dish she has been there for the past 2 days. i checked her over and she does not have any mites or going into shed. she is fully under water with just her nose sticking out. i dont have much experiance with boas so i have no idea. is there somthing wrong with her or is she just chillin


here she is in her blue water dish still have to go the the store and get those good old ceramic ones that all my snake have

I've been told (and have read) that snake will sometimes cram themselves into their water dishes because their other hides aren't sufficient for making them feel secure. Whats the rest of your setup look like?

Sometimes they just like to sit in the water. Doesn't mean anything is wrong

true and not true... excessive soaking is NOT normal and could be a sign of trouble..it could also symbolize a humidity issue or external parasites. in which case if a snake has mites or something it will often soak itself in an attempt to drown the mites. check your husbandry and the enclosure for bugs or anything out of the ordinary.. again this is only the case if the soaking becomes excessive.... I could also be that the snake is about to go into shed... or it could JUST really be that it wants to just soak as Void mentioned already...

If mites aren't there and your other hides are sufficiend, check your humidity levels. My Honduran soaks a lot this time of year unless I keep him pretty humid.

Another thing I've noticed is that my boa always defecates in his water dish and he'll usually soak himself for a day or two beforehand.
