It's about timeToday on a conference call, UFC president Dana White announced plans that sent a shockwave throughout the sport of mixed martial arts.
The bantamweight and featherweight divisions, until now fought in the WEC, are being folded into the UFC. "All of these weight classes should be in the UFC," said Dana White. "Our goal is to build this sport world wide and now is the time."
Jose Aldo was named UFC featherweight champion, and White noted that he will defend the title on the January 1st 2011 against a yet to be determined opponent.
White announced that the winner of the December 16th fight between Dominick Cruz and Scott Jorgensen will determine the UFC bantamweight champion.
The WEC lightweight champion will not be left out in the cold. Dana White mentioned that the winner of Ben Henderson vs Anthony Pettis fight will get a title shot against the winner of Gray Maynard and Frankie Edgar.
