    Re: caging question please answer

You really should buy cages that will suite the animals needs the best. If you buy a bigger one the snake might feel insecure and not feed consistently. I don't know if you looked into sterilite bins, but they are the most commonly used enclosures among reptile enthusiasts. There very cheap, durable, and easy to clean. If I was you, I would start them in the tubs and once they get close to full size, upgrade to a boaphile. Thats what I am doing.

x2 on the tubs idea. They're inexpensive and work great.

Although you can always get a bigger cage and put in cage dividers. Boaphile has ones that have removable dividers in them, and yes they come already assembled. I suppose its a little biased since I've only ever tried boaphiles and not any other major snake enclosure brand, but I LOVE mine. They're great, easy to clean, lightweight, nice looking, hold humidity well, great with heating.

An adult female Red Tail will need a 6 x 2, and an adult male will need a 4 x 2 generally. IMO I'd go with a 4 x 2 boaphile with a removable divider, baby boas tend to handle bigger enclosures better than other snakes such as ball pythons, so if you get a 4 x 2 with a divider, thats two 2 x 2s, put in some hides and some fake plants to clutter it up and your baby will have a nice little jungle for himself or herself.

    Re: caging question please answer

I keep my babies in 6 quart tubs for about six months, then move them to 28 or 32 quart tubs until they are ready for caging. I keep my adult male and female Colombian red-tails in 4x2x1 enclosures, and they do fine. I use Reptile Basics and Repti-Racks cages. I like the Reptile Basics quality better, but the Repti-Racks prices are much better. I use 80 watt radiant heat panels to heat the tubs, and a Herpstat to control the heat.

    Hope this helps.

You can use a UTH for a tub just make sure its hooked up to a thermostat/rheostat as they can get really hot. (But that goes for flexwatt too).

I had an idiot friend who hooked up his UTHs to his Tubs without any way to control the heat output and he burnt a nice hole right through his tub and his carpet, thank god his snake was fine.
