    3 beardies in a 4 foot viv

i have a full beardie setup with a 4' viv on its way and i was planning 2 beardies (1 male & 1 female) to put in it. however at the pet store they say they only have females but say they are too young at their age to sex so cant totally be sure. if i was to get 2 from there now and wait a year or so until i can determine that they were female for sure, could i then introduce a year old male in about a years time successfully to create a breeding colony?

would the 4' viv be big enuf to handle 3 and would introducing a male to a colony like this be advised?

Re: 3 beardies in a 4 foot viv

    Hi,
A 4x2x2 viv is recomended for 1 adult beardie and the general rule is you would add 2 square ft per additional animal in viv. I Don't really recommend keeping more than one dragon per enclosure as it can lead to a bunch of problems. Like dominace issues, compition for food which can lead to injury's or possibly death. Also if one of your dragons becomes sick it could pass it along to your other dragons before you even know it. Although some have sucessfully kept multiple females in one enclosure I wouldn't house a male and female together as the male will tend to overbreed the female affecting her health and possibly death. I originally was like you and wanted to house 2 females together in a 7x2x2 enclosure but one of my females was not liking this idea and would not get along with my other females(good thing I had built the cage with a devider for just this reason). If you wanted to setup a breeding colony I would get a bigger enclosure and see about housing 2 females(be prepaired with another enclosure if they don't get along). Then during breeding introduce the male to the females for a day or 2 at a time and see how it goes.

    Hope this helps.. )

I had 2 females and one male beardie. I had them each in there own 422D boaphile. They did not do well when I tried to introduce them to each other outside there tank. They just wanted to bit each other. I would not put 2 together. Even If they don't fight. One will establish dominance in the tank and that's when you end up having one with a tail nip and things of that sort. Its just not a good Idea.

Great advice given so far. Only bad things will happen if you put all those beardies into the same cage. Just keep everyone separate.
