Your snake is looking good, maybe a little thin, but not the worst I have seen. You could try feeding every other week, that would help out. I can't see much of the set up, but the heat rock worries me, do you have a retrostat or thermostat on it? They can get very hot and possibly burn your snake. If you don't already have them, I would suggest two hides that are tight fitting, one on the hot side and one on the cold side.

I have been reading about the setup for a proper habitat. When the guy gave him to me He gave me the container (old console television case about 4ft x 2ft.) and the contents theres a wood treelike item, a heatrock, and the woodchips. He said they weren't cedar, as he said cedar chips were bad for them. I put in a water bowl. I know by reading on here I need to get him a hide. I also need to get some sort of heat, maybe a heatlamp on one side? I wanna make sure and assemble the best habitat that I can. I had read on here that heat rocks could burn them.

I use tanks, but you could also use a tub. The substrate I love is Eco-earth expandable substrate, but you could use aspen or paper towels as well. Cedar is very bad for ball pythons, I would not suggest that at all. Under the tank heat mats are the best source of heat for a ball python, but again, you would need a thermostat or a retrostat, but a retrostat is supposed to be temporary. Set the heat mat to stay between 93-95 Degrees. Keep the humidity at 50-60% regularly, and 60-70% when in shed. As long as your ambient air temperature stays at about 80 degrees, you should not need a heat lamp, they also make your humidity drop as as well. If you do happen to need a heat lamp, use a red or black heat lamp, or a ceramic heat emitter.

I think he looks good, but ditch the heat rock. They are just unstable. The under tank heaters are the best, but a heat will work. You measure his hot side, and cool side with a digital indoor/outdoor thermometer with hygrometer. Good luck with him.

Normal, I would get the heat rock out of there ASAP, can cause very bad burns

I'm taking it out tomorrow and was going to replace it with an underneath pad. The guy I got it from had that in there and I was using it until payday. (today)
