    Dubia Roaches?

    Hi,

I am getting my first crested gecko later next week, and for more nutritional value and just for the fun of it, I am getting 30 dubia roaches for free, and I only have to pay six dollars for shipping. I am getting a lot of free stuff lately!

Anyways, I was wondering, what is the best way to take for the roaches until they get fed? How big of a container do I need for 30 dubia roach nymphs? How good are they for crested geckos? How many should I feed to a hatchling crested gecko, after it is established on CGD? What should I feed the nymphs? And what should I do for water and substrate?

I'm sorry for all of the questions, but I want to make sure I don't kill all of the nymphs before my new crested gecko can even munch on one!

    Thanks for any help,
    ~ Mackenzie

$6 for 30 roaches is nuts.

    30 nymphs...

let's put it this way, I ship 500 across the country in the winter in a 6oz cup.

give them a cardboard tube (toilet paper tubes work great) and a piece of a carrot. 30....I would put them in a deli dish and personally would not put the lid on it...just make sure it is in a place it can't be spilled by a cat or anything else.

large deli dish/cups would be fine for such small numbers and sizes.

nymphs can't climb really smooth plastic...but if there is a seam, they can hold on and climb.

just keep them away from the edge and you will be fine...nymphs don't climb, jump or fly.

No substrate is easiest to clean. Use water crystals instead of a dish of water so they won't drown. You can get the Flukers Cricket Quencher in any PetSmart/PetCo.

As far as a container, I use a rubbermaid tub with a cutout in the lid covered with screen. I know they can't really climb, but i'm too much of a chicken to leave it uncovered. I have a heatpad under the container operating at about 92 degrees and a bunch of eggcrates stacked vertically inside.
