I think it depends mostly on what your actual conditions turn out to be. If you can get it right with just newspaper or paper towels, and don't mind the look, I'd suggest it. Simple, cheap, easy to clean.

I use aspen for my BP's, and if I need to get the humidity up I add some spagum moss, or make a humidhide and use that in the setup. Good luck with it.

    Cheers

I use paper towels for the hatchlings/yearlings and unprinted newspaper stock for the adults.
    I love them.

I use shredded aspen in my snake rack for the baby ball pythons & boas, then put the larger snakes on paper towels.

Re: What is the best bedding for my BP

Well firstly, the coco fiber/eco earth is decent at holding humidity, but you must let it dry COMPLETELY before putting it in with your snake. If it is growing mold, it means it is too wet, which means your snake is laying on damp moldy substrate. This could very easily lead to scale rot.

You want your substrate DRY. Even if you are having trouble with humidity, it should never stay wet for more then a day or two.

That being said, cypress mulch is probably the best option to keep the humidity up. I prefer the ease of paper towels though.

Another option would be switching to a tub setup where you will have no humidity issues.

Where do you get unprinted newspaper?

And is there any confirmation on the colored ink thing? Should I be avoiding the colored newspaper pages?
