Very cute. I have been thinking about picking up a hamster or Guinea pig for my son. I had one as a teenager and loved it.

Aww, sorry to hear about your piggy. The breeder pair I had lived to be 9 years old, which is really old for guinea pigs. I am excited!

Thanks, I would say go for a Guinea pig for your son. So many parents that come into our store always get frustrated because if their kid squeezes a hamster to tight or grabs them wrong they bite. Or just bite in general, though I am have some nice ones in the past. Guinea pigs are altogether great pets.

I am worried that if I pick up a hamster or guniea pig for my son that I will want to get 2 and start breeding. I have bread both teedybear hamsters and dwarf hamsters. I miss doing that because they were so darn cute and paid for themselves. I would always trade the babies to a local pet store for supplies.

Yeah, trust me it's very easy when it comes to breeding Guinea pigs. Only takes 2 months for the babies to be born, and when they are out they automatically eat pellets and hay. Most pet stores won't take them until they are at least 4 weeks old, which is a good age. Just want to make sure the female is big enough to carry the babies, so at least 9 months to a year old. The female I had, had 6 babies each litter.
