Re: Could 2 guinea pigs be housed in this?

Two guinea pigs could definitely be housed together, but not in that. I wouldn't even put one in that. They are not climbers, not even close, and they'd appreciate floor space much more. Look for rabbit cages, those are much more suitable than that one.

When I was younger and we had guinea pigs as pets, we kept them in 74 qt tubs. 2 could easily fit in one 74 qt.

No way. Not even one would be happy in that. I hate that pet stores sell those things for G.Pigs... sigh.

No, the best caging for piggies is long and wide, but not high. The more floor room the better. I used cloroplast plastic (sign plastic) and wire panel organizing cubes to make my pig cage, and it was awesome! You can build to almost any configuration and size, it's great!

They fit much better in a boas mouth.

Just kidding. Like everyone else said. That cage sucks. Get one with more ground space.

I never understand why people buy premade cages for rodents. Its so simple to build your own.

Re: Could 2 guinea pigs be housed in this?

o.O That cage is meant for gerbils and hamsters, who in their right mind would put a guinea pig in that? The cages we sell for our guinea pigs at my work, are big enough for me to climb in and lay down inside. Not that I tried it or anything... Anyways.

Either make your own, or get a cage that has at least 4ft of floor space. They like to run in circles around, and expecially if you have 2 adults they need a big enough cage. I used to breed guinea pigs before I had snakes, lol.

I agree, piggies don't climb well! They can hurt their backs trying to climb in something like that. We made our own cage. Much easier.
They also do not need hamster wheels.

Re: Could 2 guinea pigs be housed in this?

I would not put one cavy in that.
They aren't climbers, as others stated. If you want to go and make them a cage with "levels", they need to have gradual ramps and "walls" on the upper levels so that they don't fall. Good cavy cage for a homemade thing is a large tupperware tub- can easily get a 2ft by 3-4ft .. burn some holes in it to attach a water bottle to the outside (so they can't use it to get out)..
    voila, cheap, BIG , cage.
Or there if you can "build" .. search for cages people make out of "Cubes" they are awesome.
*note , the tub idea works if you won't have to worry about kids.. cats, dogs, etc.. getting into it. Or of course you could make a mesh lid as well.

Re: Could 2 guinea pigs be housed in this?

At a recent Piggy con I got the parts to make my own cage to upgrade from the rabbit cage they were kept in. All that you need is 2 boxes of Organiz-it metal wire squares (they come with connectors) and then build it the size you want, go to a local sign shop and ask for a sheet of Coroplast (a sign making material) it comes in 4 foot by 8 foot sheets. Use this to make a insert tray and bam... your done. Mine was $50 total to set up a huge cage that my 3 pigges love, they can run, get away from eachother if they want to be alone or what ever they want to do.
