    Meet Charlotte!

After waiting nearly 3 months (for the weather to warm up at the breeder's home), my little hognose girl has finally arrived! She got here this morning, and I actually almost threw her away... seriously, the snake bag was so light I thought she'd escaped at first. Luckily I noticed the little worm shadow, and pulled her out before she ended up in the trash. LOL

I named her Charlotte from the book "Charlotte's Web," for two reasons - first is going along with my theme of children's lit characters for my non-BPs (who have Shakespearean names), and the other reason being that I can name her future mate Wilbur. Ya know, the pig from that book. Anyway, here she is!!

Settling into her 6qt tub... using a cut bottle for water now, since I forgot to buy a small bowl (will get it tomorrow).

Btw, the thermometer probe (under the substrate) is reading around 90, but my temp gun reads as high as 100 if I put it directly over the heat tape... is that safe? She was burrowed when I checked on her just now, so I want to make sure it's not too hot.

Whoa, her belly is crazy! I love that little patch of orange she has! I'm not familiar with Hognoses, but that's just so cool!

I love love love the names too. I just watched the movie for the first time since I was a kid and fell in love with the story... But it's so different from what I remembered, lol.

    Re: Meet Charlotte!

if the UTH/Flexwatt is reading 100 but inside the tub bottom is low 90s your fine. Cant go by what the heat tape reads but what inside temp reads.

For my snakes stat is set at 93 and i get 96 on the tape and a 92 inside tubs.

It's actually reading around 100 IN the tub, if I put the temp gun directly over the hottest part of the flexwatt - but on the other side of the tub (where the probe is), it's only 90-95 right over the tape. Weird!

I guess it's fine if only that one spot is hot, since hopefully she knows how to thermo-regulate herself. Right now her flexwatt is connected to one of the racks, so I can't turn it down much without freezing my corns.

Isn't that weird? I'm totally new to Hognoses, but also thought that was unusual... does anyone here know?? If it's not typical, maybe that makes her a paradox.

I'm a librarian, so it just seemed appropriate to go with literature themes. A few of them break the trend, but for the most part it's BPs with Shakespeare & others with children's lit names. My corns include Matilda, Coraline & Scout, and my jungle carpet is Kipling (after the author of Jungle Book). Btw, I haven't seen the new version of Charlotte's Web, but always loved the original movie & book.

I love their little snout noses... it's the main reason I fell in love with these snakes.

    Re: Meet Charlotte!

One question... the breeder said she ate a week ago (2 f/t pinkies), so should I feed her soon or wait a full week? She's so little, I don't want to starve the baby!

    Re: Meet Charlotte!

If your getting uneven heating allover the flexwatt its time to redo the connections or buy new piece.

It is normal to have 1-3 diff on the heat tape but not 10

How is it wired, clips or solder.
