First arboreal snake

Im curious if you guys think an amazon tree boa would be a good choice as a first arboreal snake. I'd like to eventually get a GTP as well, but having never cared for an arboreal snake i wasnt sure getting a GTP first was a great idea.

Thoughts?

Well, you could start out with something semi arboreal, like a Jungle Carpet python, Jaguar Carpet, Bredli, Irian Jaya, or a Coastal. But, if you want a true arboreal snake, I would consider a GTP or ETB. IMO, I prefer GTPs over ETBs, probably because I like pythons a lot more.

Have u had a carpet?

I have owned and had ATB and GTP and both are great animals but different.

I prefer GTP over ATB but ATB are unique in their own right.

My ATB was very unpredictable (not saying GTP are predictable)

Price is a huge factor u can get a garden phase for about $60 compared to a cheap GTP for $250.
If money is not a issue I would get a GTP

atm i own one Ball python, and one cornsnake.

Never owned a carpet, money isnt so much an issue. I have heard that ATB's tend towards being a little on the evil side.

i suppose what i really should do is just get a GTP, thats really what i want.

Well always buy what u want in the form of a reptile.

since u have only owned a ball python and a corn snake I recommend doing your research on a GTP and then when u are ready to buy, look at getting a yearling they are easier to care for being already well established.

I have had just about everything. My take on this is the GTP are the best of the 3 you are talking about. Emeralds are harder to keep, or I should say they are les-tolerant of mistakes. Atb are unpredictable, someone got bit in the face at our last show by one of them. Do your homework on the GTP and you will like them a lot.
