    Record litter size?

Does anyone know what the record is for a single litter of mice? Reason I ask is because I just had one of my females drop a litter of 24 babies and she's still got a good sized belly on her so there may be more coming!!! I took a couple quick pics of the litter before I took a quick head count.

Does anyone know of a record?

Are you sure that it's from one female or did multiple females go into labor and drop the pups in the same nest?

24 in one litter would be possible. My all white adult female dropped 23 in her last one. I'm not sure about record-setting, though. Might have to look that one up.

I had 21 once and they all lived...from a pregnant pet store mouse. 20+ probably happens fairly frequently. I kept every daughter from that female for breeders LOL. They were all just average producers.

    Re: Record litter size?

I've had litters that size a few times, however unless you only have one female in the cage you really can't tell if they're a single litter. Even young females that don't even look pregnant can pop out small litters that look pretty impressive when they're all combined together. In fact I've found it to be pretty usual for one female to steal all the babies for herself and be sitting on one big squirming pile.
