    New Jersey Breeding Permits

I've just renewed my NJ hobby 2010 permit. Is it me or does Jersey seem very restrictive when it comes to this hobby. I've been thinking about getting the (Animal Dealer - Wholesale Sales • Permit), but it seems like over kill if your a small time hobbyist such as myself.

How many NJ breeders own reptile permits other then the basic hobby permits? Also, has anyone ever had the fish & game randomly inspect their property? It states on the permit they can inspect and fine you for any violation.

    Re: New Jersey Breeding Permits

I have the Animal Dealer - Wholesale Sales Permit for NJ.
I am a SMALL time breeder but I wanted to be safe if it ever came to that. It costs $100 a year, totally worth it instead of possibly losing my animals.

Fish and Game are supposed to "inspect" your facility when you get one of those permits, in order for it to be "official" and not a "temporary permit".....I have been waiting 3 years for them to inspect my place........

heck sounds like they all cracknig down on even the harmless reptiles.. I know that I would lose my disablity ifi get the sales permit ( for breeding) because I have 1 file taxes, 2 I need a business lic to get the permit .. I can get a rehab permit but still no breeding. I considering heavly moving to MD if i knew I could find a place.

    Least restrictive reptile laws:
    Wyoming.

Sole State Law: you can't have a black mamba. <lol>

There's plenty of space in Maryland, but we have a lot of stupid laws too. Not many regarding retiles, other than no hots (unless used for research). Rick Krumrine moved to PA to get away from the hots laws in Maryland. He probably moved for other reasons, but that was part of it.

ditto for me,..however I do know first hand that they will inspect. For those who try to run just on the hobby permit, when you start listing multiple morphs and multiple ratios,..ex 1.1 1.4 and so on under your hobby permit, that may raise some flags

    Re: New Jersey Breeding Permits

After speaking to someone at the NJ Fish & Wildlife this is what they said. If you are going to sell to pet stores only, then an animal dealer-wholesale sales permit is required. If you are going to see to both individuals and commercial stores or dealers, then both Retail and Wholesale Sales permits are required.

So, I was thinking once I start getting into breeding I'll purchase the Retail Permit, so I'm not violating any state laws.

    Re: New Jersey Breeding Permits

Does anyone else have stories of being inspected by Fish & Game in NJ?

    Re: New Jersey Breeding Permits

not in NJ but I keep waiting to see a SPCA/state vet person come up to the door one of these days for me. I am very open about them coming cause I have nothing to hide. but I know i don't have much to worry about since there is no state based place for them to go if they try to claim my pets for anything, since they call me at times lol.
