Boycott Petsmart and Petco
I've debated throwing this out there and it has been batted around some. What does everybody think of a boycott on these two companies until:
1) They agree to halt any further contributions to HSUS and
2) They make a public statement that they are pulling contributions and why
My thought is a letter writing campaign to them. This would take a lot of support away from HSUS. Both of these companies do sell reptiles and supplies and may not even be aware of what HSUS truly stands for. We could take this further by finding out what other companies support HSUS and add them to the boycott as well but I figure this is a start. Here are their addresses:
Petsmart Charities
19601 North 27th Avenue.
Phoenix, AZ 85027
1-800-423-PETS
info@petsmartcharities.org
PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc.
9125 Rehco Road
San Diego, CA 92121
858-453-7845

Re: Boycott Petsmart and Petco
ive already been boycotting them for quite some time.
writing their charity side isnt going to do anything.
you need the company side, and either way they obviously do not care as they have taken the side of the pet grabbers

Re: Boycott Petsmart and Petco
I've boycotted them for some time as well. My point is, if they get thousands of letters from people stating they won't spend money in their store, it starts to cost too much to support HSUS. Personally, I prefer to support my local reptile specialty store that actually knows how to take care of the animals. But boycotting can work if in great enough numbers. Right now, HSUS has a lot more funding than we do. That's enabling them to produce television commercials that paint a completely different picture than what they truly are which in turn causes them to get more donations from people that don't know better. We have to hit them in the wallet.

How do you know that they both make contributions to HSUS? I know that top execs are members of Pijac.

Re: Boycott Petsmart and Petco
Hmm Ive never bought anything from petco or any other pet store. I order everything online from RBI. For reptiles should really never need to step into a pet store for anything unless emergency equipment failure. Seeing how everything we need could be ordered from a few sites in matter of minutes.
I used to supply Petco here mice monthly and have since stopped supplying them anything.

Re: Boycott Petsmart and Petco
I asked a lady at my local Petco and she told me they dont support the HSUS. That the funds given to them for donations go to local animal causes for the area the petco that recieved the donation is in. I dont know how true this is though. We need to do some digging and find out for sure..
She also told me she has heard of the snake ban and the fight reptile owners are putting up to stop it.
Word IS getting around but we need to get it around more.

Petsmart has made contributions to HSUS in the past, but I don't know that Petco has.

I have found no other confirmation.........take it for what it's worth.
I would also be in favor of a ban on unscrupulous breeders who indiscriminately sell animals to unsuitable homes in pursuit of the almighty dollar.
Many masquerade as Good Guys in the industry because they sell clean animals and are roly-poly happy super friendly people. The fact remains - they sell, they sell, and when in doubt they sell.
Petco and Petsmart may have naively and ignorantly funded an organization that seeks to put them out of business, but they are also supporters of PIJAC. Remember, not everyone understands the tactics and agendas of HSUS and Melissa Kraplan - look how many people float into here quoting her garbage.........
But make no mistake about it, there are reptile breeders out there who are actively peeing in our lemonade and causing just as much damage as the misguided CEOs at the Mega-Pet marts.

While true, that is a separate issue from the one that is immediately at hand--first we need to secure our right to continue keeping and breeding these animals!

No.
It's a big part of why we are here. It's one of the main reasons we are fighting legislation on all fronts.
Unscrupulous breeders and irresponsible owners contributed to this mess. The people trying to beat the beehive would have little in the way of ammo if people in our little hobby had thought about the good of the group and not themselves.
