    Long Haired Mice?

I suppose I could have just Googled it, but this is much more fun

Has anyone seen long haired mice? Do you breed them? I've never seen a long haired mouse in my life and there has been one at our local pet store for the past month. I've wanted to buy it just to have it, but I really don't care for mice, I breed rats because they are much easier to care for and they smell a lot less.

I was just curious! She's so cute with her long black hair! I wish rats had the variation that mice do!

I have some that pop out randomly every now and then in my colony, I do not hold them back to breed though.

So it's not very common? Are they bad for breeding?

They're fine for breeding and feeding - we've got a couple different lines of long-hairs in our colony.

My wife named one Fluffy and he was our main breeder for a while. Many of his babies have been "fluffy". LOL

    Re: Long Haired Mice?

I produce a few long haired mice in my colony occaisionally, but like Deb I don't hold them back for breeding. I breed for feeding and I figure that my snakes just don't need that much roughage.

    Re: Long Haired Mice?

    Long hair is recessive.

There are a a few types of coats in mice. Angora, Texel, Rex, and Satin.

My wife is obsessed with the mousey genetics. Ill get pictures.

    Re: Long Haired Mice?

I like the long haired ones, I save every female that I find like that and have several males too, I will probably eventually end up with tons of them, kinda like dumbo rats. Its just something different that I really have the desire to keep reproducing just cuz!!
