    Question Snake ID numbers?

    Hi, all,

Anyone have any pointers on identifying your snakes? While I love my slithery kids to pieces, I'm not into giving them names. They've always just been "the super pastel," "the 'bino male," "the 'bino girl" and so on. But I just got two more albino girls, and as I grow my collection and hopefully start breeding, I'm in need of a system for keeping everyone straight! I thought about labels like SPF1 (super pastel female 1) and AM2 (albino male 2), but not sure whether this would work, particularly for het normals and double hets. I also don't want to start a labeling system only to realize that it doesn't work after I've put a lot of time and/or effort into it (I am about to begin using Degei for record-keeping). I'd love to hear from folks about how you organize your snakes!

    Re: Snake ID numbers?

For my collection (not the snakes for sale) I use degei as well and my snakes are organized by Morph (2 to 4 letters used) – Year – Sex – number

2008 females spider I hatched shows as followed Spi_2008F1

The 2 female black pastels I hatched in 2008 show as BP_2008F1 and BP_2008F2 (BP standing for black pastel in that case)

For hatchling I am not holding back the system is different and on card (not using degei)

    Year – Clutch – Morph – Number

2009Cl5_Pin_M3 would be the 3rd pin male hatched out in from clutch 5 in 2009.

stupid question but what do you do if you get a pick up that your unsure of the year it hatched?

I think a year purcahsed/rescued could work. mye I have soemthing like

    508re bp f1 = 5/2008 rescued female 1

and if i had 2or morein at the same time I just go abc. once I breed I will just go

    510 pi c 1ma

5/2010 pied clutch 1 male a ( it be B if ther was more than one male) the het part would simple be Hpi ( het pied ) if double het HHpi/gh( het pied /het ghost ) and so forth . I keep it all in txt files and have pic ID made with parent pics and pic of the baby bp on the same sheet with the pics. for those I sell.
Was married to 4theSNAKElady (still wish we were)
    Ball pythons
    0.1 pieds 0.1 het pied

Put a ? instead of the year, not likely to happen unless it is a normal female, and I don’t pick up many of those anymore since I am slowly replacing most of my normal females by female morphs.
