LAST question on these Acrylic show display cases!!!

Thank you for your help on the other threads... this is the third and final question in regards to these displays.

Probably the most difficult question as I am sure people will have varying opinions....

At what point is a snake TOO big to be displayed in a particular case? For instance, One of my cases is broken into three larger compartments. I was able to fit free of my breeder males in those compartments but they BARELY fit in them. I didn't have to push them down or anything to close the tops, but there isn't enough room for them to really move around or reposition themselves much at all.

Now knowing what I know about BP's, the snakes themselves are probably perfectly happy being so cramped... but would it be good at a show? I can only imagine most non snake people gawking at it claiming mistreatment...

People will judge you no matter what you do.

Do what makes you comfortable and you'll be fine.

LOL, yeah, I am sure that is true.

But I am looking for what general rule of thumb others use on this subject. At what point do you say "This snake is just too big to be displayed in this case"

I've been around ball pythons and reptile shows for a long time and as far as I'm aware there's no rule book for this stuff. It's basically a matter of each vendors personal opinion.

    Hope this helps.

Re: LAST question on these Acrylic show display cases!!!

This is merely my thoughts on the matter...pure opinion and speculation and not in any way indicative of some industry standard. But maybe it'll be helpful.

Customers walking past your display are never going to think, "Gee, this guy gives his snakes wayyy too much room to roam around in their displays, let's avoid him." But quite a few might think, "Oh, look at those poor snakes crammed into those tiny boxes! This guy obviously doesn't care much for the animal's comfort!"...and pass you by.

Also...just my personal opinion...I find it much more attractive to be able to see the animal moving and get a good look at it's side patterns and whatnot. I tend to lose interest in a display a lot faster if animals are fitted in too tight to move around.

All that said...I don't think it's cruel or wrong to put a ball python into a tight display if you have to...I just don't think it's the most appealing way to display them.

What exactly are you looking for? Snake length/weight to display case surface area ratios? Unfortunately, I don't bring my protractor to reptile shows.

Before every show, I do a mock setup of my table at home the day before. I put the snakes in the slots and if when I look at them, they look like they could be miserable, I take them out.

Like I said, it's all about your personal judgment. If it looks fine to you ... go for it ... if it doesn't look fine to you, don't do it.

I agree...it's a turn off to me to see 5 pastels in one display crawling all over each other.
