    Tax Id

If you are going to start selling snake through a website, do you have to file for a state tax id. I live in Ma, if that makes a difference.

You'll get a lot of different ideas with that question. For me, I did get an LLC, and all other things that comes with owning a business in my state (NJ)..I also got the required permits that I need to legally keep and sell BP's in NJ....

llc is a limited liability company

you would have to look on your states website but also there could be county and town/city rules that limit it more.

    Re: Tax Id

LLC stands for Limited Liability Company. Really, it's a way of splitting your personal funds from your professional funds. Say, for instance, someone sues you because of something that was wrong with your product. If they win, and you have an LLC, they can only get at the funds that are located under the LLC... they can't touch your personal bank accounts.

It's a way to protect yourself, but it's also more professional. If you take the time and effort to create an LLC, chances are, you're a good bet when it comes to buying snakes. No one wants a bad rap with the BBB (which people can and will report you to if you have an LLC or other type of company).

There are many types of ways to form your own company, not just through an LLC. The best way is to either call the state (which will give you a good run around), call a lawyer or accountant (that will charge you like crazy), or go thru a company that will do it for you (usually the cheapest and best route... that I've found anyway).

A good place to go to learn more is www.llc.com. If you call the sales number listed, they can actually answer questions about more than LLC's... they can tell you about sole proprieterships (one owner), different types of partnerships, etc.
