I bought mine from a few small chain pet stores. My local reptile store gets in girls but most only get boys.
    Too many pets to list!

Re: Where to get good breeders?

I got my two original males from a local breeder I found on the Kiji adds locally. My two starter females were purchased at the local Petco and each has had 3 litters so far with pretty good results. Averaging about 8-10 pups per litter. I kept two females of their original litter and they to have produced their first litters of 12 and 14 pups. The only thing to go bad so far was the mother of the 14 pup litter taking no interest in the pups and now there is only one left. The other mother with the 12 has been suckling it and it is doing well now.

I started with pet shop rats and they work just fine. I think all of the petcos in my area are only carrying rodents of one sex now (to discouraged breeding) so you might have to travel to different ones to get breeding pairs.

I agree, my local Petco only carries females. I had to get the boys from a local breeder.

All of my rodents come from Backwoods Farms, and they are top notch.

I don't know where you are located, but highly recommend them to anybody here in East Central Florida.

Re: Where to get good breeders?

I got my females at the local Petsmart but had to travel to another city to get males becuase Petsmart here only gets females. They were more expensive at 14 bucks each from Petsmart but thought it was a good invest ment! I have had 60 babies from 6 moms al within a week. Any rats that are of the oposite sex should do just fine. Though I do have a few that seem to not get prego and a male that seems to can't get any prego. So it all depends on what you get. There really is no way to tell so it is all luck I guess. Good Luck!

I got my albino female from petco and she has given me two litters so far, 11 and 13.

My male comes from petco (now they only sell females here too) and is a great big stud.

My other female is from petsmart and has had one litter of 12 so far.

    Just look for healthy animals.
