Hello well informed forum members. In a year or so, I will consider purchasing a Colombian Red Tail, hence moving to the next step. I want to know from owners about the lengths these great snakes reach to and how manageble they are when they get to be that big. I really love these creatures and would love to own one, but not at the risk of not being able to handle it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

baby bci's are anywhere from a foot long to about 16 inches. there is a chance your bci could reach 12 feet, but that is probably given the fact that it was power-fed, and is a female. an average female would be around 8 or 9 feet long, and a male probably 6 or 7 feet. bci's, if kept correctly, are easy to handle. they are considered by many to be a "beginner's snake" just like a bp. a little personal experience piece of info... i've had my bci about 3 weeks, and at first i was a little nervous around him... but i already feel confident everytime i go to get him out of his enclosure. he's just a goofy snake.

    hope i helped :).

Actually, Will......you're thinking of BCCs. They get much larger than BCIs. A typical BCI male will be about 5-6 feet....a female 6-7 feet. Any larger is extremely abnormal. Columbian BCIs are great snakes and are very calm and handleable most of the time, even as babies.

Sorry, but there is as much of a chance of your BCI getting to 12 feet as there is a chance of it being het. for Loch Ness Monster. LOL

I didn't write that caresheet, and does it say BCI?

BCC's get to be the massive ones.

An 8 foot bci would be large, 12 feet freaking massive. It happens tho. David's estimates are bout right for BCI. 8 feet isn't really that uncommon tho, ain't average for sure. And 6 foot would be an average male. BCI male. I'd probly have to say your two measurements are close enough.

As far as I know, there is no BCI that has ever gotten over 8 feet. This would be like a 7 foot ball python, lol.

the caresheet does in fact say bci, and never mentions anything about bcc's.
