Liasis Fucus/Water Python

I had a fail at Tinley today - a teeny-tiny (only 16 grams) couple month old baby water python. Not sure if the gender, and no name yet. The vendor had two, this one seemed a little less snippy - not that a baby this size is any threat! Currently set up in a half-size Cambro tub. I defaulted to our usual aspen, thinking I'm going to switch over to paper towel until it gets bigger - the aspen is soooo big/rough compared to tiny python.

The retic owners here are a bad influence! I drooled at retics, especially the goldenchilds, but none were identified as dwarf/SD (and I don't know localities), plus their intelligence intimidated me a little. [emoji846]

I had looked at those too. I wanted an olive, and thought a water would be more manageable.

They can eat crocs, (smaller crocs) when they are bigger. Some good video and pics out there of it.

Thanks Gio and tttaylorrr. I named baby this morning: Kajura, which is an Aboriginal name for the Rainbow Serpent. Kajura was burrowing in the aspen last night, but I went ahead and replaced the aspen with paper towels, and gave K some crumpled-up bits to hide in/under. This morning K was out looking around when we turned the room lights on, which I like to see.

I need to hit up PetWhatsit and pick up a 6-pack of pinkies. I think Kajura is too small for the small fuzzies I've got. K's such a tiny baby I'm not sure if I want to offer food Tuesday (python day), or wait until Thursday (Colubrid day). I don't think I'm comfortable waiting all the way until next Tuesday. I may also feed small meals twice a week or go with feeding every 5 das for a bit.

Kajura tagged my this morning. I had the tub open to put in a TP tube for them to hide in, and it looked like they wanted to come out, so I offered my hand. Chomp! Um, err, ouch? OK, you get to stay out for a couple minutes once you let go. I think they were confused by my lack of reaction. [emoji4] At this point I think they were trying to strangle my hand:

I suppose I shouldn't mock Kajura, those tiny baby teeth actually managed to draw blood! A minuscule amount, but I wasn't sure there'd be any. [emoji6]

i'm sure it can take a fuzzy. i think that big, cute head can swallow big things. the real questions is - where are u gonna find crocs to feed to Kajura once it's ready? ;) j/k

I've also got a Woma, and IIRC Bredlis will eat other reptiles, so maybe I should start a colony of feeder reptiles. :D

At the moment I'm leaning toward starting with fuzzies. I've got some small-ish ones, and am going to eyeball one nearer to Kajura's head before feeding it to the sand boa tonight.

You were right Ax, Kajura had no problem with a small pinkie. Slammed it off the tongs, swallowed down, then seemed to be looking for more.
