    Abscess treatment
My female Sunglow has an abscess that is currently under treatment with antibiotics. I'm just curious if I should be cleaning out her abscess every so often? Dilute betadine?

Where is the abscess? Is it draining?

The face. Started around the mandibular area and now both mandible and maxilla are affected. There are open tracts that seem to be oozing the purulent discharge. More noticeable after she pushes her face against objects. Large amounts of swelling of the gingiva and neck as well

I'm assuming you got abx from the vet, yes?

I would definitely clean it out as best I could if the abscess has burst. If she'll let you, flush out the pus with sterile saline then follow up with Vetericyn antiseptic gel, you may need to use a q-tip to get it down into the affected area.

Yes, I did. She's currently on Baytril + Meloxicam orally once a day and Fortaz SQ injection every 3 days. Ointment around the mouth as well
