substrate

Just curious what everyone is using for their ASF's substrate.

I am currently using equine fresh because I purchased a bunch of it when I was breeding normal rats. But I wonder, since there is little to no smell with ASF's, should I just switch to aspen when I run out of the equine fresh??

I also give them a handful of shredded news paper for the nests. They seem to love it!

i'm using kiln dried low dust pine with all my rodents,i tried several different brands of aspen but found them ineffective,after two days i would get ammonia smell with mice.have fun !

Mine are doing just fine on Woody Pet.

I use Equine Fresh as well and have no intention to ever switching back.

With ASF I only replace the Equine fresh every other weeks.

I just picked up 2 trios from Kelly on here and she reccomends Corn Cob, thats what she uses so I got the same.

Since I buy tons of aspen for my snakes, thats the same I use for my ASF. It seems to be just perfect for them.

Pine. Never had a problem with it....
I also give them timothy hay to chew up to make a nest...

Equine Pine works really good with a layer of aspen on top. To give them something to build there nest with.
