    Caught a House Mouse
It's not a deer mouse, just a reg house mouse I caught.

I've googled around and haven't found much except that they may be carriers of hantavirus.

I live in a city. There aren't any fields nearby except maybe the county park about a block away, maybe it came from there?

Anyway... has any one had success in breeding these wild types? I have read somewhere these species is very much different from your per-store stock and shouldn't be placed together.

But as an experiment, do you believe this can be achieved?

ADDING: Btw, my comparison these pet-store stock look much bigger, healthier maybe than these wild type. This one in particular seems to be a female, and is obviously much thinner. Overall, the snout looks pointier?

well first off you'd need to get it to a vet and make sure it doesn't have any parasites or diseases but honestly i'd be worried about the mice harming each other. it can be a bit of a challenge getting mice to accept each other on a good day LOL

before you release the mouse though... you may want to check the laws in your area. i know here (i'm in bc canada) it's illegal to release a wild mouse back to the wild (ya rediculous i know)... but if this sort of thing concerns you... you may want to check out what is and isn't allowed.

    Hi,

Why would you want to interbeed them with the domestic mice?

If it is simply for the colour then you can get domestic mice in that colour fairly easily I think.

I'm just curious as to the reasoning behind it really.

No intention to interbreed them, or even breed them at all, I'm just curious to find out if anyone's ever done it and why?

I wouldn't want to jeopordize my own breeders knowing that wild mice could carry many diseases.
