Somewhat surprised that I haven't heard of it before because if ever someone would be stereotypically crazy to do something like this it'd be Texas, I would think..

There will be plenty more chances. I mean practically every time these people make the news it mentions their parents/uncles/grandparents/etc having died from it. Or them having been bit before.
