Syd (Spider Cinnamon Het. Albino) Progression Thread
I’ve now had Syd for a month and she’s doing great. I took her outside for some sun today and got some better pics of her, so I figured it was a good time to start an official progression thread for her where I can update as she grows.

    Background on Syd:
    Produced by Matthew Fank
    Hatched: 22 February 2018 (89 grams)
Pairing was Cinnamon x Albino Spider

I have a ton of ants and bugs in my yard so I was hesitant to let her slither around the grass. So she just hung out on my a like a really chubby bracelet for a few minutes instead.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...dfb84e8e61.jpg

Thanks. She has some very interesting coloration. It’s hard to capture in photos but you can see it somewhat. Her color shifts from being a very lovely golden on the side to nearly a pale grey toward the center... it almost has an blue/green tint in TJ dorsal scales right along her spine. And she’s got some beautiful head blushing as well as lovely pinkish tints on her side that blend where the white comes up.

But I really love her personality the most. I’m not sure if it’s a spider thing or what... but she’s a lot less timid than most BPs I’ve encountered. If you lay on the bed with her she crawls right over to you, she lets you touch her anywhere without a flinch. When she’s in her hide if her head is within view of the opening, I’ll go down and look in and she will extend her head out totally straight and come almost all the way up to the glass to check me out. She’s very inquisitive and not shy at all. She also has some “quirks” (very slight wobble, slightly disoriented on what side is up and down, but nothing major) if she gets super excited or stimulated and I personally find it really endearing. She’s a goober.

Syd (Spider Cinnamon Het. Albino) Progression Thread
Syd’s going into her first shed with me. She’s been on aspen bedding, but the humidity was hovering around 50%. I was having trouble getting it higher, so I picked up some Reptile Prime. I got Repti-Chip as well and intended to mix the two, but didn’t have a tub big enough to let the repti-chip expand in at the moment so for now I just put down the Reptile Prime on its own.

I figured after the swap she would go back in her enclosure and retreat to one of her hides like normal.... to my surprise she spent 2+ hours roaming, burrowing, making tunnels, and pushing stuff around. I had no idea the change would spark such a reaction - she NEVER tried to burrow with the aspen, so I’m a little shocked lol.

I went back in to check on her and I can’t even find her haha but I know the cage is escape proof so I’m not worried. I think she’s just still, so I can’t see the motion of her digging around like I could before....I guess she found a comfy place buried under the substrate.

Nothing to be worried about, though, I hope?

Syd had her first shed with me last night. Absolutely perfect and all in one piece (it was rolled up; the couple of tears present in the picture are from me trying to unroll it to be straight lol). She even did me the courtesy of waiting until after she shed to poop later in the night, so I get to hold onto her first shed as a keepsake! She’s up to 342 grams empty.

    The beginning of blue:

    Off with the old:

    Debuting her fresh new look:

All of the pics of her post-shed were taken outside in natural sunlight, no flash, no editing. Her coloring is just getting better and better. Can’t wait to see how she continues to grow and change.

Here’s a little pic dump of what Syd is looking like now after a fresh shed. She will be a year old on February 22. She’s around 430 grams empty, so she hasn’t been growing as fast as I initially expected; however, she did have a two month period where she was off-feed. She is back on now and has maintained a good body constitution throughout so I’ll just let her do her thing.

About a month ago she got an upgrade to a 4x2 PVC cage from Dragon Cages. It will be her forever home and she has plenty of room to grow (now cluttered with multiple hides, foliage, and branches). Best decision I ever made, as now I no longer stress about keeping her temps and humidity up like I did in her old tank.
