    Boa recommendations
Hello, I believe this may be my first post. Ive had several ball pythons for the last few years now and even though they may have been some of the best pets/snakes I have owned, It has led to an interest in other snakes. Specifically, Columbian Red Tails. I live in Ohio and my question is.... Do any of you have any recommendations for breeders or sellers in the area that specialize in boa morphs? I'm just looking for someone reputable that has a selection of boas. Thanks -Ryan

While this is not necessarily the be all and end all, its an easy to use way to start your search.

I second that idea. I would give morph market a try.

Hi Ryan, you could check out boa basement out of cleveland. Many high end and low end morph boas. I also live in OH. I've seen alot of different boas at the All Ohio Reptile shows as well.

Doug? He has low-end stuff? I've never seen anything under a few hundred $$ from him, but yeah, if he has some inexpensive normals you can bet they are top quality animals.

I consider anything under $500 low end LOL. Up to about $2,000 is mid range. :D

I almost got into boas but decided to get into dwarf and super dwarf retics instead. I was especially looking at the 'lipstick' sunglow boas. It's actually an Albino (recessive) + Hypo (co-dominant). Not really high end, you can pick them up for $500, but still a really cool snake:

Boas can get pretty big, on par with a dwarf retic:

Honestly I don't see the price of an animal as being the deciding factor of if it 'good' or not. It boils down to finding good deals. All of these animals were under $500 except the Suri. Another example would be Gerald, JM's SD ultra Ivory retic male that he won on auction for like $400ish. If you buy an animal from a 'big name' breeder, then you can dang well bet you will pay a premium for it. Does it mean, it is better than the small time breeder who paid the premium for animals from said big name breeder and then breeds his own and sells for cheaper? No because they are the same animals genetically. The key is to just watch for good deals.

I mean heck my BP that was labeled a problem feeder and biter has bit me once in almost 3 years and that was a feeding bite from my mistake. And she ate 2 days after I got her home and didn't stop eating until she hit the 1000g wall, then she started regulating her own intake lol. And I picked her up for $200. She isn't a proven breeder but is close to 2000g and I have been offered $1300+ for her but I passed as she is my little girl and I don't like selling my pets especially ones I've had a long time.

Bottom line is don't look at the animal in dollar signs, look at it for its beauty and if YOU like it. Sounds kind of cheesy but its true. Like for example, Scoria boas are down to 7k now but personally I don't see the hype in them. They are beautiful but to me, not 7k beautiful. It's all about the beholder.

And never judge a sunglow by the baby pic. They all are bright as babies and some people will try and pawn off a normal sunglow as a lipstick because of the bright baby colors. Here's Vicky as a baby and she is an actual lipstick, well her dad was. Mom was an EBV Red Group hypo.

As far as I know, XYZ is a flesh peddler aka wholesale buyer. I personally wouldn't trust a wholesale buyer that labeled a sunglow as a "lipstick" or a hypo labeled "salmon". Unless the snake can be connected to Tom Burke or Rich Ihles, it is not a true Lipstick or Salmon.

And $2000 is midrange to you? Dang do you wear Mr T gold chains too lol? On average, most people who buy 'pets' are not going to come close to spending 2k for an animal. There are some stupid like me who do where I would pay $2000 for a male mainland pied retic or $3000 for a SD pied retic when they are made(which I have heard a few people have eggs on the way so fingers crossed) or SD Cows(which again, I have heard a few people with eggs on the way) which will probably be in the 8K range as mainland cows are still 6K. The big spenders are the breeders who have to work fast as morphs drop in price fast once they are flooded on the market by people. I mean look at pied BPs. I saw a price list from one of the big breeders which of course I cant find or remember now but they were $10k. now you can get a pied for $400. Scoria boas were 10-15K a couple years ago from Henry Poirun in Canada but now he sells them for 7k. And there are breeders in the US now for them like Guy Castro and Diem Marie and one other person who I always forget their name :(

Anyways, sorry for the rant lol. OP-Just make sure you find a reputable breeder. Check the BOI page on FaunaClassifieds.com to make sure he has fairly good feedback and pay through PayPal so you have some form of recourse if it goes bad.
