Holding Prices

Im just wondering why the prices for morphs haven't dropped much. How long before we see an average albino in the 500$ range. Is it because of clutch size.

Huge demand (small pretty and easy to care for species) coupled with slow reproduction (yep small clutches) makes for the big prices.

Couldn't tell you how long, but the albinos have held a great price for 10 years now I think.

Supply and demand. Ball pythons have small clutches so supply is down....and everyone wants a ball python morph so demand is through the roof.

...albinos may never get to $500....it all depends where supply meets demand :)

I was thinking that albinos have been around for that long, which is surprising that they've held that good. Hopefully atleast het females will come down soon.

in addition to the above, i think albinos were around 10k when they came out over ten years ago. as more and more breed them they will drop a little but i would not expect 500 anytime soon. normals go for that price if they are odd or a big female.

A pair of hets can be had for $650.. really not bad at all. Then you can make your own albinos.

It's not just the demand for a "pretty albino" that makes them so pricey, either...but the chance to mix the albino with some other morph to make the next, great Designer Morph. They'll hold their value for a very long time, I think.

Thats a Great Investment....especially considering that albino prices will not reach below $1000 anytime soon....in two years you have the potential to make some albinos for yourself and possibly make your money back.

I guess investment is the key word. I guess when you look at kingsnake and see all these add for albinos I wonder why there still holding their price.

Another good reason for this is because if some guy that's down on his luck lists an albino for $500, and then you call RDR and say "But that guy has an ad for $500" he'll simply say "Then you should have bought it... from ME, it's $2500"... and you'll still buy it for $2500. :)

Prices aren't being driven down because the big breeders won't allow it to happen. (Which is a good thing for the rest of us really, when you think about it!) If they allowed others to drive their prices, then you wouldn't be able to make the same return on your investment as you would have.

Why in the world would anyone want to see morph prices drop? I guess if you want one piebald or one albino as a pet you might want it cheaper but if you are looking for foundation breeding stock why would you want to invest in a falling or very unstable market?


I know I'd rather pay good money to a good breeder for a good snake with a good market value now and in the future.

Just me .02 cents.

Now that I have already put up the money for hets, the last thing that i want is dropping albinos prices

i think that is the price for a male het for albino! the last person that would discount morphs is ralph davis. he is one of the breeders that takes pride in the market and keeps his/your investments sound.
