Tragedy at the rat rack today
Well darn...i went to grab some pups today to feed my hatchlings and the TUB WAS FLOODED. My son had checked on the rats and had pinched the water tube so that the rats could gnaw on it in the tub. I came down this morning to two swimming rats and whole bunch of dead babies....ugh. I feel awful. I'm gonna have to add additional grommets to ensure it never happens again.

Just a word of warning. Don't be a dummy like me...

wow i had my first flood the other day as well.
i did lose 1 of 2 litters but i didnt flood the whole tub thankfully. i had an old sipper hooked up and it must have been leaking for a day or so. about an inch of water in the tub. the moms had shuffled all the shavings they could to one side and saved one litter the other litter didnt get moved or were set afloat after they were dead by the moms.
it def sucks to lose litters. especially when i need to produce more as it is.

Sorry to hear buddy. I love my water bottles. Even if they leaked I end up with some wet shavings.

Oh man that sucks! That happened to me about a year ago. The tube was just a tad too long and the mom pulled it into the tub and chewed the tube in half. It was a horrible mess, all of the babies died and so did mom the next day. I'm guessing she was too weak and maybe had water in her lungs. :(

It takes 10 minutes every 3 days to switch water bottles. I spent time with my rats. I don't really have a set it and forget it operation on any of my animals. I hear far too many tragedies with auto watering systems. Just my $.02...

Floods happen. I get them twice/three time a year. But, when you have hundreds, you can't do the water bottle thing, just too many....
