Yup. I would leave the eye cap alone until the next shed. It has the potential to do more harm than good. Your snake is still fine even w/ it on.
Just make sure your humidity is spot on for his next shed.
How is the rest of his body? Does he have any stuck shed left? If so, you can always put him in a warm damp pillow case for 30 minutes-1 hr. This allows the pillowcase to rub off any left over shed when he slithers around.
And the wheezing is probably just stuck shed in his nose. Often happens after a bad shed or a soak.
