Fuzzy Pictures!

Re: Fuzzy Pictures!
Fuzzies! I should take pictures of Twitch, my little girl. I have a question since your ferrets appear to be adults. We are noticing a slight color change in our baby girl. We got her as a wee little one, probably 2-3 months old and that was in the beginning of December. We are noticing her light areas getting lighter and her dark areas getting darker. Do ferrets go through a color change as they age?

Re: Fuzzy Pictures!
Yes, they tend to darken quite bit with age. Also, what age is she? Babies, the first year of their life develop their winter coat even before winter and keep it until their first spring or summer where they shed and the colors seem more "concentrated" at the points as the coat is thinner without the longer guard hairs. Then when they are adults they have normal summer and winter growth and shed with natural changes with the seasons.

P.S. Wolf is the oldest of my current gang, he is almost 2. Dante is only 10 months, Fox is 13 months. Group of younguns right now. Dante is the rescue with the tail that was broken twice (horrible kinks) and a missing toe, saved from Petco. They were going to freeze him because nobody wanted to buy a nippy biting ferret with a broken tail and bloody foot. They still charged me full price for him, too. Grr.
Fox is a craigslist baby :) Wolf I bought from the only good petstore I knew, healthy happy super friendly baby.
Love these guys. Best pets ever. I will probably have a 4th before long....

Re: Fuzzy Pictures!
Thanks Sunny :) Dante is the feisty one that prefers to play every second of the day he isn't sleeping or eatin, Wolf is very laid back and sweet. Fox so far is a mix between the two. Feisty and fun when he plays and dopey sleepy sweet any other time. I love ferrets!

Re: Fuzzy Pictures!
If we got her as a 8-10 week old baby as most petstores sell them at that age. That was the beginning of December, so she would be about 5-5.5 months old I think. I could take some pictures for you to get a better idea of her colors and size. We were playing with her yesterday and she got into some water and on her back, only the top portion on her hair on her back is dark. The hair underneath it is pure white. It was cool to see. She looked like she was covered in chocolate chips. lol.

Re: Fuzzy Pictures!
Yeap, ferrets have an undercoat and outercoat(guardhairs) the undercoat is always lighter varying from a pure snow white to a cream or slightly yellow color in all ferrets no matter the color they are :) With 'pointed' ferrets and certain patterns the undercoat can be much darker in the areas with the points and less obvious as the color and guardhairs are shorter and much denser.
