    Brooks kingsnake staying in water?
For the last week, Ive been expecting our kingsnake to shed because he hasnt been active or looking for food and his eyes look cloudy (albino). Since he didnt shed yet, I thought maybe it was too dry, so I put a deli cup with sphagnum moss and about a 1/4" of water in the bottom in his tank. For 2 days now he has been submerged in the bottom. I just went to check and thought he was dead. He finally moved a bit when I gently touched him, but didnt retreat or even move very much. Is this normal? Could it be a sign that something is wrong?

Weve only had him a couple weeks and he has eaten twice and seemed normal. He is in a 10 gallon terrarium with a uvb bulb on one side and his heat pad is set to 88, do the actual heated hide gets to about 86. The light doesnt give off heat. The ambient is about 76-78 . He has hides and water. What could be going on?

He sounds fine to me...shed cycles take time, they are cloudy, but then go to clear before actual shedding takes place, & it "takes as long as it takes". ;)

And many snakes "in shed" prefer to be cooler; they also need good hydration to facilitate the process, which is why he's soaking. (but do make sure there's no mites- as that's
another common reason that snakes soak)

Thanks for your reply. Puts my overactive OMG! imagination to rest. Freaked me out that he didnt want to move.
Ill leave him be for a day or two and check again.

"Spa day" ....he was probably meditating, lol. Or sleeping, & enjoying his privacy. :snake:

Just stopping by to put your mind at ease a bit more and say that the reply you got from Bogertophis is spot on.

Nothing to worry about, but it never hurts to ask. :gj:
