Snake first aid kit!

Hello everyone,

Just wondering any of you keep first aid kits for your snakes? Saline solution, Silver Sulfadiazine, Manuka Honey, bandages and that? What have you found to be the best treatment for specific injuries?

I was thinking of starting a small one of all the basics in case anything does ever happen and requires attention. I remember seeing a thread on the internet with a very comprehensive breakdown, with lists for all the different injuries and how the treatments should be used and such. It was very interesting. Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me remember where I saw it, and cannot find it either!

Great question! We seem to be going to the store if we need something, but it might help that we live 1/4 mile from a 24 hour Walmart, so it's not usually a challenge if we need normal supplies.

As an add on, I was talking with my boyfriend about emergency preparations in case of disaster. That seems like it would be another thread though.

Thread title made me think of snake bite kit.

[nostalgia]My grandpa's kit was a tourniquet, razor and suction. A good thing he never got tagged out on woods duty cause he surely would have made things worse. [/nostalgia]

Dental floss is for stitching up wounds or open bellies if a baby is born with an open belly. Glue also helps to keep closed.

Can also use floss to tie off umbilical cord if baby is twisted up on its yolk sack, and you have to cut it off, to prevent bleeding out.

Keep a spare enclosure with heat, t-stat, etc. ready to go, even if it's just a tank, so you can move a sick snake out of a rack into isolation. This is in addition to a QT area for new arrivals.

F10 is a disinfectant can be used on the animal, surfaces etc

Dental floss is handy for suture but mainly for issues with the umbilical cord.

Elmer glue I us for moldy eggs, it is safe enough to be smeared on eggs and stop eggs from molding further.

That's a smart idea with the glue, do you smear the whole egg or just the mold spots ?
