Yes, the hog chow falls through 1/2 or probably even 1/4 mesh. I just throw it in my cages. When it's $15 a bag, you can afford to waste some, lol. I just bought a bag of lab block from the feed store for $26.50 .... and that hurts after spending $15 on hog chow! lol

I know it'll get wasted less, and honestly I bought it because I have a lot of animals to feed, and I have lab bins for my mice, so it's really handy to just fill the hoppers once a week to every other week.

I've been trying to find a local source of rat food for a while and a Tractor Supply just opened in my city. The fat content seems low, but I can supplement for pregnant and nursing does.


I've done hog feed before when I ran out of block and I've found that you can use 1/4" hoppers as long as you use the actual hopper as the scooper.

Yep. That's the stuff. I always keep a bag of pigeon seed (I think it's mostly millet and some other things) to sprinkle in for nursing females, and also a couple of birdalicious bug bite beef suet treats. So I've never had problems raising up litters on it.

Also just noticed it has 16 not 18% protein.
