    Looking into options

So, I haven't posted on this forum in quite a while I've been pretty busy and kinda forgot about it lol. Anyway, a few months ago I came to the decision of joining the Marine Corps and about a month ago I enlisted. I ship out on December 21 as of now. So, I now have snakes that I have to figure out what to do with. My lizard is fine my cousin can have him .I have a couple options for now and I would like to know what I should think into.

I could in order to keep them... Pay my sister to take care of them. It would be about $100 every other month. But, right now she is only 12 so it wouldn't be the best as of now option.

I can sell them to someone. I would have to be someone that has knowledge in them because I don't want to sell them separate.

Hmm... Is your sister knowledgeable in their care?

Depending on that answer, I'd say your best option (if you aren't emotionally attached) might be to either sell most of them (maybe just keep your favorite and have her look after it), or sell all of them and wait to buy more until you are out of the military. Moving will be a regular part of your life for a while, so you will need to consider whether or not having snakes will work for you for the next few years.

She is.. The problem is she tends to be really lazy about keeping animals. Not too long ago her chinchilla died because she didn't take care of it.

I may just sell some of them off. I'm not planning on getting any animals until I am out of the military. It would complicate things more lol.

Hmm.. In that case, I'd seriously look into selling them.. You don't want to keep them, pay her, and still have them die / suffer.

you may have a hard time placing the normal male BPs... You might want to look into seeing whether or not a local reptile rescue could assist you in finding interested buyers / adopters. The morph animals should be easier to sell.

    Good luck!

I would sell them. Depending on which MOS you picked, after you get out of boot camp you will ship off to other training, in my case after boot camp I went to 3 different bases all over the US. Then once you get your permanent duty station you have deployments, transfers, etc. No pets allowed in the Barracks...I can't count how many times buddies would get married, move off base, buy a dog, get order to deploy an month later then have to sell the dog. Not fair to the animals IMO.

On a side note what MOS did you inlist under?
    SNAKES
    1.0 Childrens Python
    LIZARDS
0.1 B&W Tegu, 1.0 Bearded Dragon, 1.1 IJ Blue Tongue Skinks
    FROGS
    0.0.5 Dendrobates tinctorius 'Citronella'
    DOGS
1.0 German Sherherd (Timber), 1.0 Wolf/Shepherd (Sabre), 1.0 Chihuahua (Taz), 0.1 Chihuahua (Penny), 0.1 Pitbull (Luna)

My advice, sell all of them. Been down the road of having others try and care for animals for me and it never ends well. You can always start over when your situation changes. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

Alright. So I'm most likely going to sell most of them. I don't want to sell my first snake, Ares, or my corn snake. So I'll see what I am going to do with them. Thanks for the help.

Jclaiborne: I haven't chosen my MOS yet. I am most likely going security force

Just make sure you get locked into an MOS before you ship out and don't go in open contract. Security Force should keep you busy, but from what I understand as my buddy did it, is that Security Force isn't an actual MOS, it is a secondary billet, but it would be under an infantry type MOS. They may have changed that since I was in, but it was a 3 year billet that you could start off in or lateral to at somepoint during your enlistment.

Ya I definitely do not want to go in open contact. From my Marine friend he told me I will probably have to sign a five year contract instead I will be doing four years SF than one year infantry. This will be pretty awesome.

Also, bit of an update. I have made plans for my snakes. My mom and dad are going to take care of three of them. The rest I'm going to give/sell away and keep the rack for future critters after I serve.

That's great! Thank you for making the commitment to serve and protect the country! The reptiles will always be here for you to pick up where you left off. There are more important things in life sir. Congrats. If I had more room I would buy your normals. My racks are full.
