update on my daughter's rescue horse.

The last 2 weeks have been busy with him. We had a small bout with colic. We increased the feed a little too quick. His system was worse than our friend thought. We backed his feed down for a while to let his system adjust. Now we are just beginning to increase it just a little every couple of days. We are working on his skin problems now. He was loaded with lice. We are working on getting the nasty little bugs off of him and trying to prevent skin infections too. We have him in our pasture now so my daughter can care for him without having somebody to take her to him.

Anyway here is some pics taken this Friday. He's starting to put weight, but his skin looks a little rough right now.

He is very pretty and will be even more gorgeous once he fills out weight wise. Thank you for taking in this awesome animal and giving him the best care. That is very admirable of you.

Good heavens, the poor thing! Best of luck resolving all his issues. It sounds like he's a very lucky fellow. I am really looking forward to the 'after' pics. He's going to be gorgeous!

Thank you for taking him in, and all the work you and your daughter will put into him.

WOW poor fella! How awesome of you to take him in!
He has an AMAZING face though, and such sweet eyes.
He's gotta be a good 250lbs or more underweight?

Do you have him on a daily wormer or anything? What type of feed are you giving him

Way to go, I can't wait to see pictures as he progresses!

Re: update on my daughter's rescue horse.

We figure he is about 300 lbs underweight right now. He was wormed with EquiMax wormer on 5/24. He got a penicillin injection on 5/29 and again on 6/7. We're giving him about 1 1/2 lb of sweet feed twice a day and we'll increase it slightly next week. He is also in our pasture on fresh grass. Later next week, he'll have some tame Bermuda hay to munch on also. We've got to build him up slowly due to his condition when he came to us. Also he's getting daily dusting for lice, keeping BluCote on any sores, and spraying for flies every 7 days or when they start to bite on him again. I'll post more pics in another week or so. My 15 year old daughter is the one doing all the feeding, dusting and everything with the exception of the worming and injections. I'm kinda proud of her for taking on the responsibility.

What a wonderful difference you will make in his life. The work you and your daughter are doing is going to give you both such amazing memories as well. I can't wait to see the pictures in the future that show the changes you've been able to make in his lfie.

That is awesome! Congrats to your 15 year old!

Just a recommendation as far as feed goes... I am in LOVE with Purina Ultium... no bad sugar stuff, etc... lots of fat/protein.. Easy for them to digest... hard for them to collic on... and LOTS of weight gain in there
