Wingless fruitfly vs cricket size

Hey everyone,

We are currently feeding our tarantula 10 day pinhead crickets, but we may have a much more convenient, and probably cheaper, supplier for wingless fruitflies, and want to see if this would work out for feeders, and if so, for how long?

I am just assuming that flies will work out just as well as crix or roaches for feeders, but if there is some reason they shouldnt be used please let me know.

I have a baby bicoloratum smaller than a pea, and he will only eat pinheads

Lateralis roach has tiny babies, the size of pinhead crickets, might try them.

Roaches can eat spiders....so be careful

We are not feeding roaches yet , just asking in general. When/if we do get a colony of dubias going, the spider will be getting prekilled. Luckily, our little sling will eat just about anything, including a cricket molt I accidently put in.

Well we have secured our supplier for our fruitfly cultures. We are going to try it out and hopefully our little sling will eat them.

I hope they will eat them for you! Dubias are a great roach and once you do get a colony going your love them.

I have two B. vagans and one A. purpurea sling which all eat the fruit flies and are growing just fine. They will also eat small pieces of little crics when the flies run out.

What type of FF you getting? If you are worried about D. melanogaster being too small you might want to try D. hydei. They are a little bit larger and can also be gotten flightless (thought they still have wings.) I use them for my small Dendrobates. You might also want to consider bean beetles. Just a tad larger than D. hydei, really easy to propogate, prolific as all get out. Only disadvantage to them is they have a distinct cycle so once the adults die back you have 2 weeks or so before another flush. But with a little tweeking you can get cultures running at different speeds.
