my retic pees so dang much. i changed his cage out yesterday. i got home from work today, and there was like 3 more piles of that white stuff. GOD!!! I can't keep up! My boa's and balls don't even do this. plus he's going white eyed. man, he's not stressed. I AM!
Thanks for listening, i had to vent. i feel better now.
LOL...yeah, that's kind of par for the course. Make sure your enclosure is A) well ventilated, B) that you're able to change it ASAP after your 'tic passes a lot of urates C) see A&B, so that ammonia fumes don't build up & essentially "burn" your snake's lung.
Good luck!

thanks for the tip! got anything else i might need to know, or that might help. I made a snake hook today at work out of some 1/4" 304 stainless that we had laying around. i was actually able to pull him out and hold him today. i'm so happy, now i just need to get used to the deficating.

Burning lungs sounds that might hurt a bit. I want a retic really bad but they just get too big for me I was thinking about a dwarf but some of them get big also

i was thinking the same thing, but i came upon the conclusion that my boa will only be a few feet shy of a retic. So i itched the retic itch. He has already become my favorite snake!
Retics are largely what you make of them. They are intelligent snakes that remember traumatic experiences & recognize their keepers.
If you can at all avoid it, never restrain your retic by grabbing it behind the head. That's a very good way to quickly establish a bad relationship with your snake.
Never trust a retic 100%...they are large predators that act on instinct first. Establish a set husbandry routine of "you get fed when..." "you get cleaned when..." "you get handled when..." Retics respond exceptionally well to routine, but again, do not assume that the snake is always going to "know" what is going on & therefore won't mistake you for a meal.
If you get the chance, have an experienced retic keeper mentor you if at all possible.

i dont personally know anyone. i would love a mentor with this type of python. I have a fascination with retics. ever since my first ball python all i could do was look at retics, and just DROOL! i read and read, but nothing really could give me the kind of advice you really need. Just like when my son was born. I read and i read, but if my mom wasn't there to help me i would have been completely lost.
