USDA/APHIS Restricted Species
I was told by someone that they can't sell the ASF's in their pet store because they would need a license to do so.
This is the first time I'm ever hearing of it. I tried googling for soft furred rats using their scientific name, common names, etc.
I tried looking up on USDA/APHIS website and I can't even find a list of restricted species and looking up Mastomys natalensis doesn't say anything about being a restricted species.
I've also googled it with NY laws and I can't come up with anything.
Very confused.
Are these people just misinformed, or am I misinformed?

Never heard of USDA restrictions. Some states ban them, but that would not come through the USDA/APHIS.

I know ASF (live) are illegal in California I am not sure about anywhere else.

That is so strange, I wonder why they are illegal?

Because we learned our lesson when we first brought rats over from Europe?
