Re: Red Tail Boa or Burmese Python?

Here's another thought.......Coastal Carpet Python.............Matt at MG Reptiles has (may have sold) a 7ft male he's selling. That may be a nice intermediate step on your way from BP to Burm. I understand that females get up to about 10ft or a little more, so you'd get some experience with a larger snake, and it would still be in the python family. Having had both pythons and Boas, I think there are some minor "personality" difference between the two.

Coastal Carpets do get 8ft-12ft in length, but no where near as heavy as a Burm. Coastal carpets are also a good choice, JCP's stay a bit smaller if you don't want to go up to 10ft and if you are interested in sticking with Pythons. A JCP female would stay with 6-7ft and not near as heavy as a boa or Burm.

I think thats thew burm in Florida (probably captive released) that tried to eat a gator, and killed it's self (split open).

    Ah, found a link.

Re: Red Tail Boa or Burmese Python?

Yes it is, it's a Burm that killed and tried to eat a 6ft gator and somehow burst.

Every 2-4 weeks we'll see in the local news a Burm found in someones backyard here in So FL. This became a hot topic when this came out a few months back, it became a national topic in the media.

I've seen them in pet shops for $75-$150 and have seen sud adults and adults in local papers from "$100 to free w/cage to good home".

A lot of young/new herpers buy these cute 24" Burms at the local pet shops with their own 20gln tank, hot rock, spot light, Reptibark, etc, etc. Then dump them 1-3yrs latter when they can no longer manage them and no one wants them.

If only we had enough space for everything I've wanted to keep and work with!

I'm not much for the muddy brown Argies or Salmontines! Some Albino Argies are ok, but I'll take a true crisp Blk/silver specimen any day of the week over all those!
