First Carpet Python progression thread: Rossi

So I have been lusting after a carpet python for a while now and ran into a sweet little Jungle Jag at my local reptile shop that I had to take home. He initially impressed me with his calm demeanor and inquisitive nature (immediately wanting to travel up my arm instead of running away). He was in shed and pretty much ready to peel off the old skin when I got him (in fact, the shop helped some of it along to show me his true colors). After he finished his shed that first night, I saw what a beauty he really is. I am very happy and giddy about him and anxious to see him grow. I'm not sure his exact age, but I'm guessing only a few months from his size. I neglected to get a weight on him after his first shed and poop, so I'll do it next time.

He settled in nicely to his little tub so far and has already taken a f/t rat fuzzy without hesitation. I keep expecting him to be nippy or flighty, but he has never struck and seems to settle down quickly once in hand. I have started hook training with him, though, as I think it will be useful in the future for getting him out of his big cage once he is ready for it. I really love the fact that he comes out in the evening and hangs out on his little tree branch. That's one of the big things that turned me on to carpets in the first place.

Only a few cell pics for now, but will add better ones later and try to keep this thread updated as he grows.

Very nice carpet treaux! Hawk is right, they are a lot of fun to keep and I can't imagine you'll stop at just one. My last 4 snakes have been carpets and I'm thinking about adding another. I'm looking forward to following this progression thread.
