Re: Beginner Lizards?
Thank you for all of your help! My apologies for a late, late response.
I had settled on a NBTS, and had a breeder picked out and was prepping to order when I, by chance, walked into a pet store and found an adult bearded dragon that had been surrendered to them a year prior and was more than ready to find a new home. Out of curiosity, I asked to handle him and fell head over heels for him. Its ironic how one of the only species I was absolutely convinced I didn't want managed to steal my heart. I've learned my lesson on keeping my eyes and/or heart open for anything.
Tomorrow I will be going in to place a down payment on him. If all goes well, he'll be coming home with me after another paycheck so I can spoil him rotten. In the mean time, its all about doing as much research as I possibly can. I will post pictures and a status update on this thread when he comes home. Thank you all again.

In general, the best beginner lizards are: (1) Blue Tongue Skinks, (2) Leopard Geckos, and (3) Bearded Dragons, so you are in good shape. Enjoy your beardie, they are quite fun.

Re: Beginner Lizards?
I ask this question........why in the heck would anyone recommend a varanid?
Are we now making recommendations without having any relevant experience?
If someone is coming here for advice, common courtesy dictates that any advice given be both useful and based on experience. Recommending any monitor for that enclosure is neither.
