    Switching to rats question

    Hello, I had a question.

I have been feeding my ball python f/t large mice, but I wanted to switch her over to rats.
She is a REALLY good feeder, I don't even have to wiggle the mouse and she takes it. My question is though, I don't know what size of rat to feed her, she is currently 319 grams. Here are some pictures of her.

    Any help is appreciated~

great looking snake! prey size should be just larger than the thickest part/girth of your snake. above 300grams, weaned rats or small ones will be great. but the switch from mouse to rats can sometimes be easier said than done. you might have to rub the rat with a mouse if she rejects it or seems uninterested. good luck.

    I'd try a weaned rat.

Alright, I'll try that out, hopefully she will eat it though~ I'll get a mouse to rub on it just in case. Thank you so much!

    Re: Switching to rats question

Probably rat pups or weaned rats; the pups from big cheese rodents.com are usually around 25g. I'm not sure what the weaned rats weigh, I haven't had to buy those yet

Also, I thawed a mouse & rat together in the thawing bag whn he seemed very partial to mice. It worked & he's been on rats since. Good luck

    Re: Switching to rats question

Well, the pet store I usually get them from had no idea what rat pups or weaned rats were, so they laughed at me.

They did say though that I could go in and pick the size that I needed, so hopefully that works out.
