    Silly snake questions!

I've been out of school for a while now so brain = fried! I know I probably learned this in school, but yesterday I realized I didn't know the answer 100%! Do snakes hear? If so, how? I know they feel vibrations. A friend of mine was asking and I was blown away that I didn't know! Oh and an even worse bonus question: do snakes know their names? 😂😂 this is all asked out of fun and curiosity. I'm usually not this...uneducated lol

Not having an ear drum, they don't hear per se. As you noted, they feel vibrations and they appear pretty sensitive to them in my observation.

As far as the name, I'll leave that between you and your snake.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

    1.2 Coastal Carpet Pythons

Please excuse the spelling in my posts. Auto-Correct is my worst enema.

Thanks! My friend randomly asked and it was weird. Also, in my family they feel changing the name of an animal is bad so...yeah...if they can't hear it doesn't matter XD

    Re: Silly snake questions!

New research is being done that shows they may have some ability to hear airborne sounds, but at very different frequencies than humans can hear. Basically they can only detect very low frequency sounds via air. Most of their hearing comes from vibrations that are conducted through their jaw bones which transmit information to their brain. If there were an airborne sound that vibrated the surface they were lying on, odds are they could hear it. My litte guy likes to rest his chin on my face, so I will sometimes take this opportunity to talk to him in hopes that if he is resting on my cheek, lips, or neck that he can hear some type of vibration that he may eventually become familiar with. I don't believe they can understand english of course, but I like the idea that he might at least learn to recognize the sound of me talking to him. Could just be wishful thinking, but it makes me happy and he doesn't seem bothered.
