    "Best" Axanthic line?

I am considering adding axanthic to my breeding plans. I know the different lines are incompatible (well, you just get WT when crossed), and I see a lot more VPI's than TSK or Jolliff's (haven't seen a "Markus Jayne" for sale but it isn't baby season either...).

    I'm wondering...

    1) which line 'ages' best? (stays black/white)
    2) are there any known issues with any of the lines? (kinks, etc)
    3) is there a re-sale advantage to picking a more popular axanthic line? (babies in higher demand? compatible with more peoples' projects)

Would love input before I make long-term plans!

    Thanks!!

    1) I haven't worked with any of the Axanthic lines myself, but in all of the research I've done, Black Axanthic is supposed to have the best color as an adult. I think VPI is considered to have the next best adult color. I have seen Michael Jolliff at a number of shows, and in my opinion, his snakes are good looking as adults, especially his Cinnamon Axanthics.

    2) I don't know of any issues.

    3) In my opinion, yes. Having something that is compatible with a larger population means more potential customers. But if you go with Black Axanthic, then you will have a newer gene and that may help you sell too.

    Re: "Best" Axanthic line?

The best line is VPI this is the line most people chose to work with and the one that look best on it's own and in combos.

    No issues with any lines

Since with Axanthic you have to breed within the same line it sounds like the best idea is to stick with the VPI line as the others have stated. Gives you more potential buyers.

    Re: "Best" Axanthic line?

Someday... I dream of having the space/time/resources to mix all the axanthic lines and get triple / quadruple homozygotes (just to see)

    Thanks for your inputs!!

Talk to anyone who works with the jolliff or TSK line they are hard as heck to sell.

You open up a bigger customer base by working with VPI.

I have seen stellar animals from each of the lines, so the potential is there for any of the lines, just vpi popularity makes life easier when it comes to moving them to a new home.

I've seen great examples of each, but most people these days are working with VPIs. I'd definitely suggest leaning towards VPI.. That doesn't mean that ALL VPI axanthics are going to be amazing.. Be picky when picking your axanthics. If you can, see what the parents looked like .
