Trying to connect with someone in southern Cali/Oregon

My aunt works for a moving company. She found a little lizard in a shipping crate from California. We're in New Jersey so we couldn't just release him so my uncle put him in a tank with some cypress mulch, a water dish, and a crazy bright aquarium lamp. He had him for a year and then was trying to get rid of him (he said he was going blind?) so I took him in. He told me it was a skink, I figured it was someone's pet that maybe got mixed up in shipping but when I got him I found out he is southern alligator lizard. Probably a wild one that found himself a nice dark crate to hide in and next thing he knew he was being thrown in the back of a truck and shipped across the country. He's stressed out and even though I corrected his husbandry, I don't think he's going to do well in captivity. I was hoping I could find someone in an area where they are thriving in the wild who I could ship him to and who would release him. I believe he is of the Oregon locality. I've only had him for two days so I'm going to give him a week or two and see how he does with corrected husbandry but if he's still tweaking out I'd like to get him back to his home. I'll even pay to ship him.

That is one long tail, sorry I cannot help you; I live in Canada. But maybe he'll be alright and you'll have a cool little lizard as a new buddy.(:

If he has been in captivity for a year, I don't know how well he would do just releasing him back into the wild.
